Project Heritage
Interior design for a 50-year-old residential flat in Hong Kong
Situated in Pokfulam, one of the oldest neighborhoods in the Western district that holds many of the city’s colonial past, the project pays homage to its heritage location with the aim of preserving the cultural elements that is within the east-meets-west community.
At the core of our design project, elegance and comfort played a few key roles. The interior provides a timeless and calming ambience that will stay fresh throughout the seasons.
In meeting with the owner’s desire to have a foyer that did not exist in the building’s original layout, an intimate entryway was worked into the design and then constructed by allocating interior space from inside the unit to reposition the front door. The result is a stunning private main entrance that greets guests upon arrival to the apartment. Integrating the use of white-washed brick walls, mosaic-marble flooring, and a Victorian-styled front door decorated with antique brass accessories, these features fabricate a periodic British style entryway that is a league of its own.
Upon entering the apartment, the design scheme is continued throughout the space with a moderate use of decorative linings on walls skirting, dados paneling, and cornice ceilings. A clean and sophisticated look is demonstrated on the TV wall in the living room using crown molding frames and antique wall lamps. The antique ceiling fan, wooden furniture, and black & white soft furnishing, curates a European style living space with a modern mid-century flair. The theme is further enhanced in the dining room with a mixture of art-deco and mid-century collectables, Victorian door panels and decorative mirrors. Highlighting the main décor is a pair of black metal frame French doors, with golden door levers, that is installed at the entrance of the hallway leading to the bedrooms. The timeless and elegant design is echoed throughout the entire home.
